National Gallery Implements Measures Against Protests
National Gallery has announced a series of security measures to prevent protesters from attacking paintings. Following attacks by protesters on Vincent van Gogh’s Sunflowers, John Constable’s The Hay Wain, and Diego Velázquez’s The Rokeby Venus, the National Gallery stated that only baby food, expressed milk, and prescription medicine will be allowed as liquids into the museum. In addition to these measures, metal detectors will now be present at all gallery entrances, bags will be checked, and visitors will be asked to bring minimal belongings and avoid large bags. Furthermore, any campaign material or wearable items thought to be associated with organizations that pose a physical threat to the collection or contain aggressive content will not be allowed.
