Houston Weather: Fire Warnings and Cold Fronts Coming

HOUSTON – The weather in Southeast Texas is becoming increasingly volatile, with fire and freeze warnings reported.

Red Flag Warning: Critical Fire Conditions Ahead

Elevated to critical fire weather conditions are on the horizon for Monday, fueled by gusty northerly winds and dry air. With these conditions, any fire that ignites could spread rapidly; therefore, outdoor fires are strongly discouraged. Burn bans remain in effect across the state, emphasizing the urgency of caution.

Freeze Warnings: Cold Nights Ahead

Polk, Trinity, and Walker Counties are currently under a Freeze Warning from 9 PM Sunday to 9 AM Monday. As we move into the night and through Tuesday, temperatures are expected to drop significantly. Overnight lows could plunge into the low 40s, with areas north of Houston experiencing mid to upper 30s both Monday and Tuesday mornings.

Wind chills are likely to make it feel even colder, possibly dipping into the 20s and 30s on Monday morning. Parents should ensure their children are adequately bundled up at the bus stop, as frost is a possibility on these chilly mornings.

Warm Weather Returns Later This Week

After these cold nights, warmer temperatures will make a comeback, with highs returning to the 80s by midweek and extending into the weekend. However, another cold front is anticipated, potentially bringing rain overnight from Saturday into Sunday morning.

Tropical Weather Update: Calm Seas Expected

In the realm of tropical activity, the Atlantic Basin does not predict any significant cyclone activity in the coming week. The likelihood of new tropical disturbances in the Gulf for the rest of the month remains extremely low, as the season gradually winds down.
