New Task Force Forge Takes Charge at the Southern Border

A contingent of 500 Marines and sailors from Camp Pendleton has commenced its mission at the southern border, partnering with U.S. Customs and Border Protection and U.S. Border Patrol. This unit, identified as Task Force Forge, operates under the Joint Task Force–Southern Border and forms a crucial part of the operational efforts initiated by the federal government.

Mission Overview and Background

Task Force Forge, part of the Combat Logistics Battalion 15 under the 1st Marine Logistics, has assumed significant operational responsibilities following a presidential executive order issued on January 20, which declared a national emergency at the southern border. This directive instructed the Department of Defense to engage in activities aimed at addressing border-related challenges.

This recent deployment follows an earlier mobilization when another 500 Marines deployed to San Diego and El Paso on January 23 as part of Task Force Sapper. Tragically, two members of the previous task force, Lance Cpl. Albert A. Aguilera from Riverside and Lance Cpl. Marcelino M. Gamino from Fresno, lost their lives in April during a convoy accident in New Mexico.

Preparations and Strategic Focus

In preparation for their mission, the Marines of Task Force Forge participated in hands-on training alongside members of Task Force Sapper for several weeks. This collaborative effort aims to ensure seamless integration and operational efficiency in the field.

“Our mission is clear,” emphasized Lt. Col. Colin Graham, commanding officer of Task Force Forge. “Support our federal partners and the Joint Task Force-Southern Border, enhance operational readiness, and uphold the territorial integrity of our nation’s border with professionalism and precision.” The task force is set to establish its presence in the Yuma sector, amplifying ongoing support activities in that area.

Conclusion

The deployment of Task Force Forge is a pivotal move in reinforcing the U.S. border’s security framework. As these Marines and sailors step into their roles, they carry with them not only a commitment to national safety but also the spirit of unity and professionalism that defines the U.S. military. Their efforts will undoubtedly contribute to the broader objectives of maintaining order and enhancing border protection in a complex environment.

As we reflect on these developments, it is evident that the integration of military support at the southern border is a strategic decision amidst ongoing national discussions about immigration and security. The resolve of Task Force Forge sets a precedent for collaborative efforts in safeguarding national interests while navigating the complexities of border management.
