The Culture League Podcast Premieres in Lagos: A Night of Connection and Conversation

Exclusive Watch Party at Ebony Life Place

The vibrant city of Lagos buzzed with excitement on Saturday as Webek Studios, in collaboration with Kini Media Group, hosted an exclusive watch party for the debut episode of The Culture League podcast. Held at the Afrobeat Restaurant within Ebony Life Place, the event attracted sports enthusiasts, creatives, and entertainment industry stakeholders, creating an atmosphere ripe for connection and cultural exchange.

A New Perspective on Footballers

The evening commenced with a glamorous red carpet, leading into the official screening of the inaugural episode of The Culture League. Hosted by Super Eagles stars Victor Boniface, Wilfred Ndidi, and Frank Onyeka, the podcast aims to provide an unfiltered glimpse into the lives of footballers beyond the pitch. It delves into themes of identity, creativity, and the shared human experience.

Inspiration Behind The Culture League

Wilfred Ndidi shared insights into the podcast’s inception, stating, “It was a team effort. We came together to change the narrative of always being the ones asked questions. We wanted to be the ones asking.” This sentiment reflects the podcast’s goal of fostering dialogue and understanding among various personalities.

The premiere episode featured candid discussions on topics such as football, public relations, online toxicity, hard work, and the importance of consistency in achieving success.

Memorable Moments and Challenges

During the launch, Ndidi reminisced about his proudest moment as a Nigerian footballer—Nigeria’s 2-0 victory against Iceland at the 2018 World Cup, where Ahmed Musa scored both goals. “I felt goosebumps,” he recalled, highlighting the emotional connection athletes have with their achievements.

Frank Onyeka echoed similar feelings, emphasizing the value of engaging with celebrities from diverse fields. “What inspired me was linking up with other celebrities, trying to know more about their profession, especially actors and comedians,” he noted. However, he also acknowledged the challenges of coordinating schedules, particularly with the team spread across different countries during the off-season.

The Bigger Picture

Ndidi emphasized the broader mission of The Culture League: “It’s for people to actually know that these celebrities are also human beings. They’re not like superheroes.” He aims to bridge the gap between fans and athletes, showcasing their relatable human experiences.

“The Culture League is not just about football; it’s about everything in general,” he added. The podcast seeks to bring together individuals from various careers to share their experiences and insights, ultimately helping audiences understand the multifaceted nature of personal branding.

Future Guests and Educational Goals

When asked about potential guests, Ndidi expressed a desire to host iconic musician 2Face Idibia, whom he regards as a cultural icon. Onyeka, on the other hand, highlighted fellow Nigerian footballers like Ademola Lookman, advocating for their greater global recognition.

For Onyeka, the podcast’s core objective is education. “I think a lot of people don’t know what’s going on in our field. I think with this podcast, it will make them understand how football works,” he stated, underscoring the importance of demystifying the sport.

Celebrating Connection Through Stories

As the screening concluded, the atmosphere transformed into a lively celebration filled with food, music, and photo opportunities, embodying the essence of The Culture League: connection through shared stories.

With its unique approach, The Culture League is poised to redefine how fans engage with Nigerian footballers—not merely as athletes, but as individuals with depth, humor, and compelling narratives worth sharing.
