ABD Oscars Ceremony Features Strong Support for Gaza

Call for Ceasefire

At the 96th annual Oscar awards ceremony held in the United States, “Oppenheimer” won the “Best Picture” award, while the director of this film, Christopher Nolan, won the “Best Director” award. The highlight of the night was the Gaza protest held outside and the speech against the occupation in Gaza by the award-winning director Jonathan Glazer. Demonstrators gathered outside the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, where the ceremony took place, to demand an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and blocked the entrance.

Oscar-winning Director Supports Gaza

Jonathan Glazer, who won the award for “Best Foreign Language Film” with his movie “Zone of Interest” which portrays the Holocaust, expressed his opposition to the occupation in Gaza in his acceptance speech. Glazer stated, “We stand here (in Gaza) as those who reject the Holocaust and Judaism that is stolen by an occupation. This occupation brought conflict for many innocent people, be it the victims in Israel on October 7 or the ongoing attacks in Gaza, they are all victims of actions that dehumanize.” Additionally, a short tribute video was shown for Russian opposition figure Alexey Navalny, who recently lost his life in a Russian prison.
