Mark Kevin Hart: A Life Celebrated
A Loving Family Man and Passionate Traveler
Mark Kevin Hart, 66, of Willow Spring, NC, peacefully passed away on Saturday, August 16, 2025, following a brief illness, surrounded by the love of his wife, Kathy. Born in Syracuse, New York, to Donald and Marjorie Hart, Kevin’s journey took him from Oklahoma to Plymouth Meeting, PA, where he graduated from Villanova University in 1981 with a degree in Astronomy and a minor in Mathematics.
Early Career and Personal Life
Kevin’s professional journey began at GE Aerospace in Valley Forge, PA, during the Cold War era. Here, he not only worked long hours but also formed lasting friendships, many of which became lifelong partnerships. It was at GE that he met Kathy, who initially inquired about the "cute guy" from a nearby building. Their shared interests in sports and social activities led to a love story that has withstood the test of time.
After 15 years in aerospace, Kevin made the bold decision to pursue his passion for brewing beer, which ultimately led him and Kathy to North Carolina in 1997. While exploring the beer industry, he eventually returned to technology, culminating his career at Garmin in 2018.
A Man of Many Talents
Kevin was not just a professional; he was a lifelong learner, a problem solver, and a perfectionist. His talent for fixing everything from bikes to cars earned him the nickname "MacGyver" among friends and family. His home in North Carolina, built alongside Kathy, became their sanctuary, a paradise surrounded by wildlife.
Passion for Astronomy
Astronomy was a passion Kevin nurtured since childhood, sparked by a class at Plymouth White Marsh Junior High School. He saved diligently to purchase his first telescope at 16, and this hobby flourished throughout his life. Whether it was setting up his telescope in the neighborhood or sharing spectacular celestial events with friends, Kevin’s enthusiasm for the stars was infectious. He even traveled to the path of totality for the Total Solar Eclipses of 2017 and 2024, capturing remarkable photographs that he eagerly shared.
A True Sports Fan
Known as an unwavering Philadelphia Eagles fan, Kevin planned his weekends around game schedules and cherished discussions about the games with his family. Tragically, he missed witnessing the Eagles win their first Super Bowl in 2018, as he was on a memorable trip to Antarctica with Kathy to celebrate her birthday.
Adventures in Travel
Kevin and Kathy were always on the move, driven by their love for travel. They were gearing up for their 36th wedding anniversary in September 2025, traditionally marked by gifting each other new experiences. Over the past five years, they explored the United States in an RV, ticking off National Parks and State visits. Their travels brought them to all 50 states and 46 out of 63 National Parks.
Kevin also embraced international adventures, visiting 22 countries across five continents. His philosophy was simple yet profound: share the places you love with the people you love.
Legacy and Celebration of Life
Kevin was preceded in death by his parents and beloved cocker spaniels. He is survived by his devoted wife Kathy, brother Steven (Kay), niece Lily, nephew Vaughan, and cherished in-laws. Friends and family will gather for a Celebration of Life Service at Bass Lake Park in Holly Springs, NC, on Friday, September 12, 2025. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the exceptional staff at the North Carolina Heart & Vascular Hospital for their compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the National Park Foundation, urging all to embark on adventures with loved ones in Kevin’s memory.

Mark Kevin Hart’s life was a tapestry woven with love, passion, and adventure. His unwavering spirit and zest for life will be remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing him. In every star-filled sky and heartfelt conversation about sports, his legacy will continue to shine.
